Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway makes new ATH as the stock market crashes. How is he doing it?

 

While investors look for asfety, Berkshire has become a landing zone. And Warren is ready to strike. With hundreds of billions in dry powder, he can buy when everyone else is forced to sell. But don't confuse that with him linking to sit on cash. He made it clear in his letter to shareholders that this isn't some strategy. "We would prefer owing good businesses." he said. But when prices are too high, he waits.

 

최근 몇 주 동안 S&P500, Nasdaq이 조정받고 있다. 조정으로 끝날지 하락장으로 이어질지는 모르겠다. 올해 초에 보유 중인 BRK.b의 10%를 덜어내서 SPLG와 JEPQ를 매수했는데, 얼마 지나지 않아 시장이 조정받으니까 기분이 좀 그렇다. 내 포트폴리오의 절반을 차지하는 SCHD(+K.SCHD)도 약간 하락했다. 

 

환율이 상승(원화가치 하락)한 점도 있겠지만, 전체 금융 자산은 큰 변화가 없다. SPLG, JEPQ의 비중이 크지 않기 때문이다(각각 10% 미만). 반면, 여전히 20% 정도를 차지하는 BRK.b에서 ATH가 나와서 포트폴리오를 지탱해주고 있다. 나 역시 BRK.b를 landing zone로 여기고 있는데, 경기 침체가 온다면 막대한 현금으로 회장님께서 훌륭한 기업들을 매수할 것으로 믿는다.   

 

 

 "Each of the five companies increase dividends when appropriate, they repurchase their shares when it is sensible to do so, and their top managers are far less aggressive in their compensation programs than their U.S. counterparts."

He also pointed out tha these companies have solid balance sheets, good capital strategies, and don't overpay excutives. Berkshire even took out more yen-denominated loans to strengthen its Japan position. It's not just a hege-its a conviction move.

 

한때는 지름길을 찾아다녔다. 워런 버핏과 찰리 멍거의 가르침은 일개 개미인 나는 할 수 없는 방식이라고 지레 포기했더랬다. 그러나 이제는 알 것 같다. 가장 안전하고, 오래가고, 성공할 수 있는 전략이다. 투자뿐만 아니라 삶의 방식 또한 그렇다. 내가 훌륭한 기업들을 찾아내는 데에는 분명히 한계가 존재하지만 그래도 괜찮다. 나는 나의 능력 범위를 확인하고 그 안에서 움직일 것이고, 그동안 동행하는 멋진 기업들이 그들의 일을 제대로 해낼 것이기 때문이다. 따라서 정도를 가고, 서두르거나 조급해할 필요는 없다.
